Nana's remaining 3 available pups:
Sable (left) & Dylan (right)
Dylan (Bob Dylan) & Sable (Mercury Sable) are like bookends, both are males and both are constantly hiding and ambushing each other. When they are not ambushing each other they are ganging up on Gracie, which never goes well….for Dylan & Sable! They are 12 weeks old now and they each have a wonderful playful personality. They enjoy playing with each other and any humans that wander into their realm. One of their favorite games is to chase one of our full grown male border collies around, (the adult BC acts “scared” for them), until he turns on them and barks them away. As soon as the adult quits barking, Dylan & Sable come charging back barking and chasing the adult all over again! They both are intelligent and inquisitive always exploring their world; fearless would be an excellent way to describe them. Both boys show more traits of an Aussie than a BC, taking more after their mother Nana. Both could be an excellent pair of working dogs if put together with an experienced dog to learn. Both are available for adoption separately, but to the right situation consideration will be given to adopt both Dylan and Sable to the same home!

Gracie
Gracie is now 12 weeks old and the largest of Nana’s pups. She is female and very independent compared to her brothers. We believe that Gracie’s father must have been a border collie, as she is actively stalking her siblings and trying to intimidate them with her “eye”. Sometimes her eye stare even works on her siblings! Gracie loves to play keep away with anything she picks up, and really enjoys this game. Nana her mother also enjoys the game of keep away. Nana has been kid tested, and is excellent playing with small children, so we believe if Gracie or her siblings are raised with children and treated well; they will become excellent friends, companions, and protectors for life. Gracie also enjoys rides in the car, running after the “big” dogs in our pack, and cuddling in your lap. With her attention to playing keep away, we believe Gracie would become and excellent flyball, diving, or agility dog. With correct training and sheltering her from her own over excitement she may well become an excellent working dog also. She certainly will make a wonderful family pet!

Nana
I am a female Australian Sheppard mix about 1-2 years of age and my name is Nana. I came to my foster home with my six puppies, I was doing all I could to care for them and I was in rough shape. I am now doing much better, eating well and taking care of my pups. I am a good mother, but I am tired and need to rest and take care of myself for a while. I could certainly use a few more pounds on my frame, and would like to get my strength back.
My foster parents have been teaching me to walk on a leash, and I am getting better at something I probably have never done before. They tell me I always wear my white and ermine colored socks like a princess, what ever that is. I like them speaking to me softly, and scratching me behind my ears. I talk a lot with my ears, they stand up very pointy and straight when I listen to you, and I can turn them in different directions to listen for my pups or new food poured into my bowl! Watching my ears you can tell what I am saying!
My body size is small and I will not get any taller, but I hope to weigh more. I have increased from the 20 pounds I came in with and I have a great appetite. I really like powdered sugar donuts and fried liver!
My personality is a bit shy, but I do like being with people and warm up to new people quickly. I like to sleep on your feet while you take a nap, and I freely give kisses. With some training I might like to play fetch, or anything that would keep me busy and pleasing my person. Even though I have had to be on my own much of my life, I do care about my puppies and want them to have a better life than mine has been. So even if you were not interested in making me your next best friend would you consider giving one of pups a new lifetime home? They are good kids full of life and adventure; anyone of them can make you laugh and smile. Please make a good life for one of them!
Thank you, Nana. |
7/26/10: Nana update; She has made an excellent recovery and now weighs 39 pounds! Her pups have weaned and some are going out to new homes. Now Nana needs a lifetime home. She has been in to see the vet, and her age is only 12-16 months. She has been tested negative for heartworm, and has been spayed and is current on vaccinations. Now the good news, Nana is FULL of energy and has become very playful, even to the point her pack mate buddies get worn out! (They are young male border collies she is wearing out!) As with most Aussies Nana is far faster and quicker turning than her BC playmates. We have nicknamed her “Nana the magic bullet”. She is eager to please humans, and is learning a few commands and walking on a leash nicely. We believe she will make an excellent agility or fly ball dog. So if anyone out there has been thinking of getting a good candidate for one of these activities and an excellent companion would you please consider Nana? Nana has recently been tested with young mature children for an extended period and she is OUTSTANDING! So no issues with children! Pick Nana and we will explain how we chose her name, makes a good story!

Shelby
Shelby is a beautiful black and white Aussie mix who is about 3.5 years old. This girl was surrendered to a shelter because her owners did not want her anymore - she came into heat and it was just too much trouble for them. Their loss and a lucky family's gain!
She is a very beautiful and sweet dog. She is somewhat shy around people she doesn't know, but once she trusts you, she will be your best friend. She is a quick learner and with each new day with her foster she is proving what a gem she is! Now that she has been given a chance she is blossoming into a wonderful girl. She does very well with cats, other dogs and children. She is not food aggressive nor animal aggressive and gets along with everyone once she knows they mean no harm. She walks very nicely on a leash and loves to go for rides in the car.
Shelby is very playful, loves her doggie toys but is not a high energy girl. However, she will need her daily walks, where she can run and have some quality play time. She would make a great hiking companion. Shelby would do best in a household with another dog and also a household where she would not be alone all day long. Because of her initial shyness, a household with older kids and an active lifestyle is encouraged. Are you ready for a steadfast beautiful girl in your family?

| Shelby is house-trained, crate-trained, (now) spayed, UTD on shots and ready for her forever home. Contact Nora, 505-242-4349, NORA.A.TRENTMAN@saic.com if you would like more information on Shelby. |

Shep - Australian shepherd (purebred) male, 9 years old.
Shep had one owner from the age of 2 months until December when his owner moved out of state and left him behind in the care of someone who didn't want him. We took him in as a foster and he was soon adopted, but it wasn't the right match. And so now, 4 months later, he is more than ever in need of someone to give him some time, patience, love, and security.
Contact with Shep's original owner has given us more insight into his personality than we normally have with rescue dogs. This information makes us believe that current behavior problems (escaping yard + a couple of fights) are the result of trauma he has suffered by having his world shattered and resulting insecurity. We believe he is a wonderful dog who needs a person or 2 to give him some confidence that his world is not going to crash again tomorrow. That person needs to have a lot of time to spend with him and also a lot of experience and understanding. The right other dog or dogs would be good too as he does really like to play and does enjoy the company of other dogs.
We believe that the real Shep is a laidback kind of dog who enjoys hanging out with people, dogs, horses. I think he just needs to know that he has a family and a home and and they will still be there tomorrow. We want the right home for Shep now. The months go by and his life continues to be upheaveal and insecurity. We understand that many people are not in the position to be able to give him the time and understanding he needs, but we also know that the right person is out there, the one(s) who can help him and then will enjoy Shep for years to come.
